April 11, 2019 – Meeting Recap

  • Attendance was 48 members plus 2 guests for a grand total of 50!  Lots of chatter and connecting.
  • Thursday, May 30th from 4 pm – 8 pm is the Downtown Abbotsford spring Wine & Art Walk and we have been invited to put up a display of modern quilts on a wall 22’ long by 8’ high.
  • We have 28 signed up for the “Make A Mini Make A Friend” Swap with the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild and all the matches have now been made.  Finish your Modern Mini Log Cabin and hand it in at the May meeting to be hung at the Wine & Art Walk on May 30, 2019!  The Swap & Meet Up day with VMQG will be in June.  The details of the Meet Up will be arranged soon.
  • The FREE TABLE is back!  Bring any craft related goodies that you want to give away.  If no one picks it up by the end of the evening, you are responsible to take it back home again.
  • Lots of inspiring quilts and stories shared at Show & Tell. Check out the pictures on Facebook.  Let’s celebrate those finishes together, keep them coming! When posting on IG, remember to use the hashtag #FVMQGcelebratemyfinish.
  • Thanks to Gail Houser who brought it home, our QuiltCon Charity Quilt made it back and we got a good look at it during Show & Tell.  The Executive will be deciding who the recipient is this year.
  • After the break, we had three inspiring mini-trunk shows from a few of our Executive.  Thank you to Christine, Marilyn & Norma for sharing their quilts and stories. Check out the FVMQG facebook page for pics.  Thanks for taking the pictures and posting them, Nancy!
  • Thank you to the volunteers that climbed the ladders and held the quilts for Show & Tell and then also for 3 mini-trunk shows!  That’s a lot of holding!
  • 50-50 ticket sales were brisk and the pot grew to $80!  The winner was slow to check her ticket and claim it because the winner was Eileen Tiessen, and she was holding the ticket basket! After all your time organizing the 50-50 sales, it’s a well-deserved win, Eileen!
  • Lots of great Door Prizes again!  If you won one, take the opportunity to connect with the person who brought it.
  • If you have trouble finding your name tag at home on guild night, you are welcome to leave it at the membership table at the end of the meeting and then pick it up when you arrive next month!
  • Keep making blocks for Community Quilts, but May is the last month to hand them in.  After that, Joanne & Kathryn will work at assembling the blocks and finishing what has been started in preparation to handing over the responsibility of Community Quilts to new volunteers in September.
  • It’s not too early to think about how you would like to volunteer in the guild starting next September.  Getting involved is the best way to get the most out of the guild.  Maybe this is the year you can take a turn.  Talk to any of the executive if you have any questions about what jobs are available.  FYI – To distribute the work load more evenly, Programs & Workshops is going to be separated into two responsibilities.
  • See you at the May Coffee Klatch on the first Saturday of the month, May 4th.  Meet at 10 am in Delta for coffee at Petra’s and then go see the Boundary Bay Quilt Guild Show.  Check the Events tab on Facebook for details.  Thanks for arranging Coffee Klatches, Tracy!
  • There are a few spots left in the Piecing Curves Workshop by Jean Jones coming up on Saturday, May 11 at UFV.  Cost is $40.  Contact Joan Zielke asap if you are interested.
  • Mark your calendars! Laura More announced that we will be hosting Terry Aske and her “Circles” workshop on Saturday, October 19, 2019.  Cost will be $55. Laura will be starting a sign up list at the May meeting.
  • Next Guild meeting is May 9, 2019.  FVMQG rocks, just sayin’.
