January 2018 Meeting Recap

Laraine opened the meeting at 7:10. A small group this evening due to inclement weather but the meeting was really fun.

President’s Report – Laraine

Welcome everyone. Welcome especially to our new members and guests. Please speak to Laraine if you have any questions about CQA. The Canadian Quilters Association is holding the national show in Vancouver May 31 – June 2 2018. It does not come west very often and we encourage everyone to take advantage!

Creativ Festival Update

This show is at the Tradex in Abbotsford March 16th and 17th. Fraser  Valley Modern is coordinating the  display area, a booth and a talk about the modern quilting movement.  We need everyone to help out in order to make this happen.

Check the post at the top of the guild Facebook group to sign up for a volunteer shift . You get to spend the shift talking about modern quilting, and as a bonus there is free admission to the show.

We need modern quilts for the display area! If you have a quilt that you haven’t shown before, please use this link to register it: We need to know what we’ll have in order to organize the display area.

Community Quilts – Joanne

Blocks are available tonight for the next community quilt. Please grab a block or two if you can help out. Most recently we did four quilts for an African family who is coming to the area. We are planning a discussion at an upcoming meeting about where the community quilts go. In the meantime, please let Joann or Kathryn know if you know of someone who has a need

Upcoming Classes – Stacey

Stacey will be teaching three classes on modern quilting techniques at Quilt Canada, if you are going please check them out. They are designed to be fun and unstructured! She has also invited the guild to beta-test her quilting cruise class. There may still be a few spots left for this free class which we will hold at UVF. Please message her directly for more information.
