Welcome – Marilyn
Marilyn opened the meeting at 7:00. She spoke about making the most of the meetings and being present with each other while we are there. The true value of these meetings comes from the sharing and community we create when we come together.
A challenge for tonight: We are asking everyone who takes the mike to talk about someone who has inspired their quilting. Marilyn started by talking about the Gees Bend Quilters.
Community Quilts – Kathryn (inspired by Jaquie Gering of Tallgrass Prairie Quilts) & Joanne (inspired by Jenny Doan of Missouri Star)
Our charity quilt is back from QuiltCon safe and sound. We are still deciding where its home will be. We are talking to a few organizations about ongoing donations, keeping the numbers small and realistic. We do need more help with longarming the charity quilts – please talk to Kathryn or Joann if you can help.
Creativ Festival – Kathryn
Just one volunteer slot open on Friday. Remember that volunteers get in free. Kathryn will be doing the presentation at 11:45 daily – she’d love to see some friendly faces in the audience if you are there.
An Update from the Photographer – Jean (inspired by her artistic aunt)
We are trying out a new form to collect a bit of information for show & tell. The most important part is the pattern and designer. We get asked about these a lot when we post on Instagram. The form is also a permission to post photos of your quilt (and sometimes you) publically.
What’s Coming Up – Christine (inspired by her very crafty mother)
April: member demos
May: Krista Hennebury trunk show (poppyprintcreates.blogspot.ca) & a paper-piecing workshop with Lysa Mair (lysaflower.com)
July: picnic at Mission Heritage Park
August: Amy Dame trunk show
Membership Update – Barb (inspired by Cynthia Frenette, www.cynthiafrenette.com)
Welcome to our guests and drop-ins tonight.
Member introduction: Barb introduced Sonya. Sonya specializes in handwork and thinking outside the box. Her improv quilts are always inspirational. We are about to lose her to the North and we will really miss her calm presence and quilting inspiration!
Show & Tell
Thank you to everyone who brought something to show. We encourage everyone and especially new members to bring something to share with the group. We draw inspiration from each other!
Trunk Show with Stacey Day (FVMQG member blogging at staceyinstitches.com)
Stacey presented the quilts from her new book, Child’s Play Quilts. The book includes 20 patterns designed to as stashbusters. Stacey includes photos of each quilt in warm and cool colourways, which really helps visualize the different options. The book includes a variety of fun applique and pieced patterns which could easily be resized for different applications.
Signed copies are available for pre-order now from Stacey’s Etsy shop, StaceyDayQuilt. Stacey will deliver to the guild meeting if add a note to the seller when you buy.
