FVMQG 2nd Anniversary, September 2012

Happy 2 years to the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild!

group shot september 2012

I don’t think Lysa and I knew what amazing things we were in for when we decided to start a branch of the Modern Quilt Guild in the Fraser Valley. We met for the first time, thanks to Holly who introduced us and suggested we carpool, driving in to Vancouver to attend one of the first meetings of the Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild, which was so much fun. We soon realized though that our drive was longer than the actual meeting, and we conspired on the drive home, “There have got to be more of us out in the Fraser Valley who’d like to meet, right?” We soon decided to get things going for real!

We started meeting at the sadly now closed Quilt Essential Fabrics in Abbotsford, and quickly grew and grew! We now have a wonderful group of amazing modern style quilters who meet once a month at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford. I think speaking for both of us, we couldn’t have imagined things going any better! Our group is full of warm, friendly, generous, talented, skillful, helpful, inspiring, hilarious, fun, and amazing people who share a love of sewing and fabrics, and having fun together while talking about all things quilts!

This September marked our 2 year anniversary as the Fraser Valley Modern Quilt Guild and we celebrated with an all day sew-in full of fun, yummy goodies, wonderful doorprizes, and of course, sewing! You can check out the photos in the slideshow below, or click here to see it larger on Flickr.

Massive thank you’s to everyone who helps coordinate our meetings, and for everyone who attends and makes our group the special and inspiring place it is. We couldn’t do it without you and we look forward to celebrating many more years together to come!
