(Completed) Â Barb Mortell workshops August 8 and 9 are full. Lysa will send out an email reminder with the supply list.
(Completed) Fat quarter swap – solids this month. Full details are on the website. For August, we are swapping fabrics that can be fussy cut. This means they have an element you might want to isolate and cut out to use individually. Please bring two fat quarters in a ziploc back labelled with your name. We will do the swap at the break.
(Completed) Â Victoria Zippy Pouch Swap
Cathy handed out the pouches randomly by drawing names. Wow, wow, wow! Lovely pouches and fun gifts – thanks to everyone in Victoria who swapped with us.
Cindy of Cindy’s Threadworks
Cindy presented on different types of thread. The threads that hold our quilts together area great way to enhance our piecing and add interest and sparkle with things like metallics. Different types have different uses: cotton sits on top and stands out; polyester is a good cost-effective alternative to cotton; rayon has a nice sheet but is not strong – can’t be laundered. Silk is ideal for hand applique – it just blends and disappears. If you are having thread issues the first step should always be to rethread the machine. Big thanks to Cindy for visiting us and sharing her excellent knowledge!
Show & Tell You can view all of the July meeting photos here.
Lots of great show and tell this month!
Sisters, OR Quilt Show
A number of members enjoyed the recent bus trip to the outdoor quilt show in Sisters, OR. The show itself had 1401 quilts displayed all over town. The whole town supports the show in different ways. Darlene and Cathy ran into Jacquie Gering admiring one of the quilts made from her book. (Squee!) The shopping was great. The trip was very worthwhile and for future reference, the week before is full of quilting classes. The Portland Modern Quilt Guild hosted a meet-up and there were people there from all over North America.
Door Prizes! Thanks to everyone who brought a door prize. Sharing these little gifts with the group is always super-fun and a wonderful way to end the meeting.
