May 2018 Meeting Recap

Welcome – Joan
Joan began the meeting by welcoming members and several guests. The discussion about the Charity Challenge Quilt has been postponed until the next meeting so that we have enough time to look at the different options properly.

Programs – Joan & Christine
Tonight we have our trunk show with Krista Hennebury from Vancouver Modern. There is a workshop May 26 with Lysa Mair – still space if anyone wants to join us. The June meeting is our trunk sale. Feel free to bring anything quilting, crafting or sewing related that you’d like to sell. July is our potluck picnic at Mission Heritage Park and in August we have a trunk show with Amy Dame and hopefully another workshop.

Community Quilts – Kathryn & Joanne
Blocks for the next quilt are available to pick up tonight. Please bring them back to the June meeting. In June we will have a rep from Abbotsford Victim’s Services here to tell us a bit more about what they do with our quilts. If you have anything ready that you want to donate to them directly please bring it to that meeting.

Membership – Barb
Welcome to our guests and visiting member Judy Borne.

Block Lottery – Jean
We are planning a wonky star block lottery. Watch the group Facebook page for details.

Trunk Show – Krista Hennebury
Christine introduced Krista Hennebury. Krista’s traditionally inspired modern quilts have been featured in many magazines and at QuiltCon. She teaches all over the world.

Krista talked about the evolution of her quilting style. Her artistic process works like this: make stuff, learn things, participate in swaps and commnity projects. Go out and look around at what other people are doing. Design your own quilts and projects. Don’t take anything too seriously and most importantly have fun while you’re doing it!
